Safe Nest Raises Over 40k in the Nevada Big Give

Safe Nest Raises More Than $40,000 during Nevada Big Give

Funds raised to support the Safe Nest shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.

During the annual Nevada Big Give on March 12, Safe Nest supporters raised $41,970 from 307 unique donors. This more than doubles the funds raised during 2014’s Big Give and will fund several essential programs of the organization, including counseling, shelter, prevention education and the crisis hotline.

“The slogan behind the Nevada Big Give, ‘give where you live,’ is truly embodied by this showing of support,” says Estelle Murphy, executive director of Safe Nest. “Thanks to the generosity of the Las Vegas community, Safe Nest will be able to extend even more support to those women, men and children who experience domestic violence in our community and help them to heal.”

To engage community support, Safe Nest launched a grassroots campaign through its board members, volunteers and existing support base to spread the word, share their support on social media and create awareness for the cause and the day. Nevada has historically ranked number one in the nation for domestic violence incidents in five of the last six years. Nearly half of all women living in Nevada will experience some form of domestic violence while living in the state, which makes the services Safe Nest provides, including a 24-hour crisis hotline and a 70-bed shelter in a confidential location, a necessity.
